Hello everyone!
I came to the States in my twenties for graduate school study. In my family I was the first one who studied aboard. I didn't know what I wanted to do in the future and didn't know what life would lead me once the journey began, but simply had a passion to see the outside world and meet different people. When I first settled down in an apartment close to the school campus, all the furniture I had was a bed, a desk and a chair in my room. My first American roommate was shocked when seeing this at her first visit to check out the apartment. When she left, I thought she would never come back. Surprisingly she came back later with her mom, brought all other furnitures using a truck, and filled the apartment to make it homey. I had received lots of help from people I first met when arriving in the States in the first few years. I am deeply thankful to their kindness, generosity and selfless support to a stranger.
I had no idea what an actuary was at that time as my major was not in actuarial science. I was simply interested in math and corporate finance. Then, I learned from a statistics professor that the actuarial career is a perfect combination of the two. That was like a light bulb being turned on. It was less than a year away from finishing my graduate school. I started to study the actuarial exams myself and passed two exams before finding an entry level actuarial job in a life insurance company.
With hard work and the support from the company's study program, it took me about five years to pass all the actuarial exams and got the fellowship certificate. Later on, I became a manager and rotated to different actuarial teams. I took on different roles in different companies, including head of a reporting team, director in corporate actuarial and individual contributor.
I am greatly thankful to my family, for their unmatchable love and support. I am also thankful to all the friends and people I met in my education, career and life. Every life experience sparkles a reflection of myself, which is like step stones that lead me to make this website. I am grateful for all the support, generosity, inspiration and love I ever received along the journey.
